Races

Although you may encounter many different Races across the Galaxy, KAOS consists predominantly of four main Races detailed in this manual. Ninlei, Yolei, Akulei, and Gorolei. For information on other Races you may see, please look for their individual pages on the website. You can even learn more about these Races than what is just required for gameplay on their individual pages at the website as well.

As a reminder, the Starting Attribute Modifiers are based on a default spread of 5 points in each Attribute. Since you can’t have less than 1 point in each Attribute, no matter what, you can also just subtract all the negative modifiers from your normal total of 30, and treat positive modifiers as that Attribute’s minimum requirement instead of one, and achieve the same results.

Ninlei

Description

Ninlei are the native Race of the planet Lupsis. They excel in crafting technology and learning, but are average in all other categories. They founded KAOS upon first encountering the friendly Yolei and fill the majority of the Security Sector in the Alliance.

Ninlei are, on average, a very adaptive Race who prefer new technology and techniques over clinging to the past. More so than any other Race, they strive to conquer the stars and colonize as many habitable planets as possible. They have concluded that it is best to work alongside non-agressive Races and help them build up their own star systems and bring them into the Alliance instead of going to war with them, but aggressive forces like the Twilight Scourge remind them how good at war they were prior to entering the Space Age.

The Ninlei only have one advantage over the other races, and it is that they learn Weapon Talents at a faster rate. Every time they land an Attack, gain 2 rating of that Weapon’s Talent instead of 1, and 4 rating for Critical Hits.

Yolei

Description

An old, wise Race from the planet Jhebos that doesn’t progress very fast on their own and are mostly noted by their pointed ears. They have been technologically advanced enough to travel the stars for 10,000 years now, but had only colonized four nearby planets by the time they encountered the Ninlei. They tend to get very set in their ways and aren’t very ambitious in general.

On average, Yolei are a very spiritual and organized people. In KAOS, they tend to handle management and bureaucratic positions. They don’t really enjoy war, but they will engage in necessary defensive operations. They aren’t bad with technology, but they don’t favor it when possible, which may be why it took them so long to colonize planets prior to joining the Alliance. They really like trading, especially haggling.

Yolei can spend a Full Action to Pray and restore 5% of the caster’s maximum SP to each Ally in their Zone of Attention (including themself). They also restore 2% of their own SP at the beginning of each turn.

Akulei

Description

Tracing their ancient lineage to mixing with the Darkbrood on the planet Jaspnai, Akulei have noticeable fiendish features, such as the horns on their foreheads. Otherwise, they don’t appear too different from the Ninlei and Yolei. They are a very aggressive Race that attacked KAOS relentlessly when they first met, until some Ninlei managed to break through to explain the benefits to their people and convinced them to join the Alliance. Prior to joining the Alliance, their societies were mostly dark, grunge cityscapes, so they tend to still live in dives and basement apartments accessible from alleys when available. Any location that shades them from sunlight most of the time. Not that it harms them or anything; they just prefer the comfort of the shadows in the same way

Most Akulei love the heat of battle. They don’t tend to volunteer for frontline positions and would rather take active military positions than more flexible contractor work. They aren’t the toughest warriors, but they are fast and dangerous, often blitzing their targets down.

The more they fight, the more they are able to keep fighting. Akulei restore 2% of the damage they deal to enemies as TP.

Gorolei

Description

The Gorolei are a mechanical Race that developed so long ago that they no longer have records about how they came to be. The factories that assembled them were still running long after whatever organic life may have invented them was gone. When the Alliance found them, the Gorolei had captured every celestial body in their home system of Haedrin, since they didn’t need to worry about the habitability of a planet. Upon seeing the advanced vessels KAOS arrived in, the Gorolei needed no convincing to join the Alliance. To them, it was common sense that working alongside these other Races would be the most efficient method of spreading themselves across the cosmos.

Gorolei are very sturdy, having mechanical bodies. Despite that, they prefer the more technical side of combat with Abilities and suppressive gunfire. Not that they have real issues being frontliners when necessary. They do find themselves to be far easier to repair than their organic counterparts and will gladly defend them, but that style of combat is simply not their preference on average.

The Gotolei do not have HP or SP. Instead, add the HP and SP they would have had to their TP. All damage is applied to their TP as if it were their HP, and anything that would normally consume SP consumes TP instead. Anything that would restore their HP or SP will restore their TP for the same value.
