“Why don’t ya git some trainin’ in, ya gimp box!”
Páddy is currently the longest-serving member of the Wicklow County Lifesavers stationed at Brittas Bay, reaching a record total of four years at the beach. With the average residency being three weeks, Páddy is considered a seasoned veteran, as well as a few spuds short of making champ.
Personality
Reckless, crass, and a total arse are frequent ways others describe Páddy. She may have a sense of style, but she has no sense of manners. She is definitely a warm person with the ability to be friendly, but she might be a little too warm to the point that she is a walking kitchen fire. She will tell you exactly what is on her mind as bluntly as her hurley, so the only people she tends to make friends with are either those who can handle her directness or even those who actually appreciate it.
History
Early Life
Páddy’s mother, Áine, was also a lifesaver at Brittas Bay and the previous owner of the nickname “War Witch”. She took maternity leave while pregnant with Páddy, but rejoined as soon as her little girl was walking on her own. At the age of five, Páddy lost her mother during a nasty storm, to what many believe was a monster attack, yet no one knows which kind. She was then raised solely by her father, Pádraig, whom she was named after. She made it rough for him, always getting in trouble with things like exploring restricted parts of the coast and getting into fights with local kids. It was made even worse for him when she turned twelve and volunteered for lifesaver duty at Brittas Bay. He knew he couldn’t stop her. She never listened anyhow, and she saw it as a way to get close to her mom. When she signed up, she was greeted by a Far Darrig who struck a contract with her and gave her mystical powers, making Páddy the new “War Witch”
Attributes
Stats
Might: Normally, Páddy is no stronger than an average athletic woman of her size. She often beats grown men in fights [that she starts], but that is mostly through superior skill and tenacity alone; any trained or athletic man would very likely toss her around.
When transformed, Páddy has incredible strength enough to knock around a sea serpent whose head alone is the size of a whale. She even claimed that one was a pup and treated it like it was no big deal for her. She was also capable of creating some kind of magic projectile that sliced clean through the beast and exploded with a yield similar to a nuke.
Vigor: Even as a regular human, Páddy is extremely durable. She isn’t shrugging off attacks from any of the usual weapons that would lethally harm anyone else, but, comparably, she is the type of person who would manage to limp away from getting hit by a car going reasonable speeds. She can also hold her alcohol better than most of the boys her age.
As War Witch, she can take about as much as she can give. She appears to have taken no damage from a massive sea serpent and was more concerned about being far enough out as to not harm the people back on shore than she was for herself when she unleashed her finisher.
Alacrity: Páddy is the type of girl who would sooner take up parkour than gymnastics or cheerleading. She is swifter than any of the other girls at school, but that’s about it. She has decent footwork at least, since she finds her way to boxing lessons more often than her dad would like. She is also an excellent swimmer, as one would expect from a lifesaver.
In her transformed state, she is incredibly fast and can launch herself into the air like a ballistic missile, even starting from the water. While she lacks the ability to legitimately fly through the air (if she goes up, she will eventually come down), she soars through the sea better than almost any sea creature, almost as if she were levitating through the water.
Intuition: Having little knack for book smarts, Páddy has lots of street smarts and great instincts. It’s not that she is dumb or anything, quite the opposite, she just doesn’t care about maths, sciences, literature, or even the arts. Aside from scrappin’, if fashion were a school subject, she might be interested. She has a tremendous memory, though. Páddy can tell you the names of every regular at the beach, every monster she’s encountered, the attributes of those monsters, the sea life nearby, every landmark along the coastline, every recipe her mother left them, and every item from the last twelve seasons’ collections. She just can’t force herself to care about what she doesn’t care about.
Morale: Páddy’s will is a fireball crashing through a wooden castle. She isn’t one likely to lose drive or hope, but that also means she doesn’t often cool down long enough to channel it in the right direction and has a tendency to burn herself and others in her recklessness. She also tends to blame herself when things go wrong, which can cause her to double down on the heat and make things worse, trying to make them better.
The transformation seems to have no direct effect on her or any of the other lifesavers’ willpower, but it does offer them a much higher amount of existential protection than they would have otherwise. This not only aids them against the tricks and tomfoolery of fae, but also offers a level of resistance to Madness.
Luck: Páddy has fairly good luck, but it is slightly catastrophic. Most of the time, she gets pretty lucky, like finding money on the ground, winning bets and games at the pub, or getting two sodas for the price of one from the vending machine. Every so often, that good luck levels out all at once and blows up in her face, like a time when a project worth half the marking period’s grade was destroyed by a Sluagh attack on the way to school, causing her to nearly repeat the grade if it weren’t for all her service to the community keeping her in good graces.
Abilities
Transformation: A magical girl transformation gained from a contract with a Far Darrig that gives Páddy supernatural powers for protecting the bay.
Leagadh Scoilte/Fell Cleave: Gained from her transformation, Páddy has what appears to be a large energy slash that can slice through monsters and maybe cause dangerous explosions of nuclear scale.
Equipment
Magic Whistle: An object given to the lifesavers of Brittas Bay that represents their contract and allows them to transform.
Trusty Hurley/Shillelagh: The transformation gives every lifesaver a shillelagh, or a striking stick in this case, that may take different forms depending on the personality of the user. Given Páddy’s very sporty and blunt personality, it takes the form of a massive hurley, the club used in hurling.
